Kellie opened up about her experience filming the show’s 40th-anniversary live episode. She confessed that a specific moment in the script filled her with dread.
“When we first got the script, I was supposed to actually take out a coin – because it was all about Denise making a decision. I was meant to toss the coin and catch it,” she explained.
The idea of flipping a coin live on air, with the added nerves and pressure of performing in real-time, was overwhelming.
Kellie admitted that her hands would likely be sweaty and shaky, making the task even more daunting. Anticipating a potential mishap, she even carried two spare 50p coins in her pocket, just in case.
“I can’t toss a coin for toffee anyway,” she admitted. “And I thought, ‘My hands will be shaking, I’ll drop it, and then I’ll have to scramble to pick it up. There’s just no way I can do that.’”
Determined to avoid an embarrassing live-TV moment, Kellie approached the director with an alternative suggestion. She proposed that Denise interrupt Linda just before the coin toss, eliminating the need for her to perform the nerve-wracking action. Thankfully, the change was approved, sparing Kellie from what she feared would be a disastrous on-air moment.
While Kellie was relieved to dodge the coin toss, another scene recently had EastEnders fans buzzing. Linda Carter made headlines when she used the word “tits” on the show, sparking widespread speculation among viewers about whether it was an accidental slip-up or an intentional line.
