Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd found himself stepping in to help a fellow soap actor after an unexpected turn of events left him stranded.

The actor, best known for portraying David Platt since 1997, came to the rescue of his co-star Colson Smith, who plays PC Craig Tinker on the long-running soap.

Colson, 26, revealed on their podcast On the Sofa that his travel plans hit a major snag when his car broke down due to a mechanical issue.

He explained that he had been driving through Lancashire after spending time

with Big Brother stars David Potts and Brad Riches when he noticed a concerning noise coming from his vehicle.

After reaching his destination at a remote pub, he realized something was seriously wrong.

Recalling the moment, Colson said, “When I got there, I was like, ‘Lads, my car is broke.’ It was making a really dodgy noise. I had a mechanic come around at 10 p.m. on Monday night, and he thinks I might have broken a suspension spring. Not great. So, it’s parked on the drive and can’t be driven.”

With his car out of commission, Colson needed a backup plan for his journey to Leeds, where he and Jack were set to promote their live On the Sofa podcast show. That’s when he turned to his longtime friend and colleague Jack P. Shepherd for assistance.

“I had to ring little Jacky P up and say, ‘Any chance of a lift to Leeds?’ and he said yeah,” Colson recounted. “He came to my rescue, picked me up, the windows were down, the heated seat was on, and the tunes were blaring.”

Their podcast co-host Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley in Coronation Street, expressed concern over the costly repairs Colson might face, speculating that fixing the issue could set him back “thousands.” However, the journey to Leeds itself turned out to be just as eventful as the breakdown.

Colson prides himself on his knowledge of roads and insists on traveling without a sat-nav. However, his confidence in navigation soon led to chaos. “My rule is we don’t use a sat-nav. I pride myself on my knowledge of roads,” Colson said. “So, we got in the car and Jack said, ‘Do you know where we’re going?’ and I said ‘Yeah, left, right, left.’”

Jack, however, wasn’t convinced. “Yeah, I had to ask him every time. It’s not like he gave me a bit of warning,” he added.

Their road trip took a dramatic turn when they found themselves facing a bus head-on due to a navigation mishap. Jack explained, “We were coming out of a multi-storey, and Colson said, ‘Just get in your right-hand lane, go around these, and get in your right-hand lane.’ So, I’m there at the lights, and there is no right-hand lane—I’m just on the wrong side of the road.”

Colson jumped in, describing the chaotic moment: “Bus coming towards us and I’m like, ‘S***.’”

Realizing their precarious situation, Jack had to act fast to avoid a collision. “He had to jump a red light so we didn’t go head-on with a bus. It was chaos.”

Their co-host Ben Price found the story amusing and jokingly questioned Jack’s familiarity with Leeds, to which Jack admitted, “I grew up in Leeds, but all my driving has been in Manchester.” He explained that he left Yorkshire as a teenager and had since become accustomed to the roads of Manchester, making Leeds’ streets a little more challenging to navigate.

Despite the travel troubles, Jack and Colson eventually arrived at their destination, safe and sound. Their unexpected adventure provided plenty of laughs for fans of their podcast, proving that even soap stars aren’t immune to a bit of real-life drama.

With Colson’s car still awaiting repairs and the duo’s road trip proving more complicated than expected, it’s safe to say their trip to Leeds will be one they won’t forget anytime soon.
