Nikki Sanderson, known for her long-running roles in Hollyoaks and Coronation Street, has recently hinted

that she could make a return to Weatherfield after stepping down from her role in Hollyoaks.
While Sanderson has cherished her time as Maxine Minniver in Hollyoaks,
the actress is not ruling out a comeback to her roots on Coronation Street in the future.

In an interview with OK!, the 40-year-old star revealed that her decision to leave Hollyoaks was far from easy.

“Deciding to leave was an incredibly difficult decision for me because Maxine is a huge, huge part of my life – and a part of my life that I’ve loved,” Sanderson confessed.

“It’s difficult to think, ‘It’s time,’ and it wasn’t an instant or overnight decision; it took me a long time to make it. It was something I genuinely fought with myself about, but I’m lucky that I could talk to people around me and get their opinions.”
Despite the emotional nature of her departure from Hollyoaks, Sanderson remains open to the possibility of returning to Coronation Street, where she originally found fame. Having played the character of Candice Stowe for six years, from 1999 to 2005, she holds the soap in high regard. “I love Candice and I love Coronation Street, so I’d never close myself to anything if they did want me back in the future,” Sanderson explained. “That’s the exciting thing about doing what I do. You just never know what might happen next.”
Her comments suggest that while she’s stepping away from Hollyoaks for now, she has not closed the door to the idea of reprising her role in the iconic ITV soap. Her fans, who remember her from the early days of Coronation Street, are hopeful that a return could be in the cards.

As she looks to the future, Sanderson also acknowledged the importance of having a solid support system around her. She credits her partner, Anthony Quinlan, a fellow Hollyoaks actor, for being a major source of support during this transition. Quinlan, known for his portrayal of Gilly Roach, has been by Sanderson’s side for three and a half years. While she prefers to keep her personal life private, Sanderson opened up about how happy and content she is in her relationship. “I’m in a wonderful, happy relationship, so let’s see what the future holds! Anthony really is my rock,” she shared.
Beyond her personal life, Sanderson is reflecting on her long career. She expressed gratitude for her early beginnings in acting, having started as a child at The Carol Godby Theatre Workshop. “Who knew way back when as a little girl going to drama classes that I’d spend the next 30 years working because of them?” she remarked, acknowledging the support of her family, friends, and partner in her career.

However, as the industry evolves, Sanderson admits there are new challenges she has to face, especially in the digital age. The rise of self-tapes and digital CVs has changed the way actors audition. “Now you have show reels and self tapes, but I never had to do that as you were just in a room with a casting director,” she explained. “It’s all about the digital CV, whereas before you had the Spotlight catalogue which was like a Yellow Pages for actors!”
Though she’s excited to learn more about this new digital landscape, Sanderson also expressed her concerns about the competitive nature of the industry today. “I’m under no illusions of how the industry works, and there’s always the potential that you’ll never work again,” she said. Despite these fears, she remains optimistic and determined. “I want to be as positive as possible and see myself in these really incredible productions out there, and I’ll do everything in my power to be able to do that.”

With her passion for acting, supportive partner, and strong fanbase, it seems likely that we’ll be hearing more from Nikki Sanderson in the future, whether it’s on Coronation Street or in a new and exciting role. Her openness to new opportunities and her resilience in the face of challenges suggest that the best is yet to come for this talented actress.
