Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian has shared a momentous health update, revealing that she is now cancer-free after undergoing extensive treatment.

The 42-year-old actress, best known for portraying Becca Dean in the Channel 4 soap from 2001 to 2007, was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in June last year.
Following months of intense medical procedures, she expressed her relief and gratitude in an emotional social media post.
In December, Ali opened up about completing five months of chemotherapy, describing the experience as an immense challenge both physically and emotionally.

Additionally, she underwent a mastectomy in January, which was deemed successful.

Now, as she reaches the final week of radiotherapy, Ali has joyfully shared that she is officially cancer-free—a reality she admits she is still coming to terms with.

Taking to Instagram, the actress penned a heartfelt message, revealing her journey to recovery.
“I wanted to update you all. I’m on my final week of radiotherapy, which should mark the end of my active treatment—I hope and pray for good. My mastectomy in January was successful and confirmed that my chemotherapy had worked. As I sit here right now, I am free from cancer. I can’t even believe it.”
Ali extended her gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals at Cork University Hospital (CUH), acknowledging their unwavering support throughout her treatment. She described the nurses as compassionate and understanding, providing her with both medical care and emotional support. “The nurses have given me time and space to share my experience. This journey is not only a lot for the body to process but is also incredibly challenging mentally and emotionally.”
She also expressed admiration for her consultants, praising their expertise and dedication. Reflecting on the work of healthcare professionals, she recalled a phrase often used on television sets: ‘Come on guys, we’re not curing cancer here.’ Ali acknowledged that the incredible men and women in oncology dedicate their lives to doing exactly that—saving lives and offering hope to countless patients. She also gave a special mention to a hospital staff member named Stef, who served tea to chemotherapy patients and made an immense difference in her journey.

Despite her overwhelming relief, Ali admitted that receiving the news of being cancer-free still feels surreal. “After the shock of my diagnosis, it’s hard to let in the light and believe that everything might just be okay. The road back to my life won’t be linear, but I will continue to share my truth and experience with you all.”
She went on to thank her followers, friends, and family for their unwavering support throughout her battle. “People with cancer, experiencing treatment, need love. Full stop. Unconditional, arms-around-you love and support. I have truly felt that from so many of you, even from the most unexpected places. When it’s dark, look for stars.”
Back in December, Ali marked the end of chemotherapy by celebrating with her husband, David O’Mahony. At the time, she shared a video of herself ringing a small bell—a symbolic act of reaching the end of a grueling phase of treatment. She explained that she had borrowed the bell from her child’s music box, as the hospital in Ireland did not have the traditional bell-ringing ceremony for chemo patients. “Chemo is major. The oncology nursing team at CUH are incredible,” she shared. “It’s not that I never want to see them again because I love them all so much, I just hope that next time I do, we’ll have a glass of Prosecco in hand, raising money and awareness for all their incredible work.”

Ali’s announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from friends and fans, including fellow celebrities. Hollyoaks co-stars and Strictly Come Dancing professionals flooded her with messages of encouragement, praising her strength and resilience. The actress, who has been open about the emotional toll of her journey, previously admitted that shaving her head during chemotherapy was one of her biggest fears. However, she later embraced the change, saying that what once felt like losing her identity became something she felt comfortable with.
As she embarks on the next chapter of her life, Ali remains hopeful and grateful for the second chance she has been given. Her story serves as an inspiring testament to resilience, and she continues to encourage others facing similar battles to hold on to hope and seek support. Her journey may have been filled with challenges, but today, Ali Bastian stands victorious, ready to embrace the future cancer-free.
