‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers exclaim that the recent scenes between Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) were extraordinary.

Their heartfelt exchange on the rooftop was inspired and a good use of the show’s history.

Sonny was read the riot act by Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) after she lost the baby her sister, Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi), had been carrying for her.

He found himself on the roof of the hospital building.

Molly screamed at Sonny that because of him, Kristina’s life was in danger, and her daughter was dead. It hit Sony hard, and he contemplated ending his own life after the verbal attack.

That’s when Morgan showed up for his dad in a big way. He came to Sonny as a vision and told him not to jump. Morgan reminded Sonny that he needed to be there for his kids.

Sonny argued that he caused his children nothing but pain, and he believed that the right thing to do was end it right there.

Morgan convinced Sonny to step down from the ledge. He then went straight to Kevin Collins’s (Jon Lindstrom) office and told him he needed help.

Benard and Craig did their characters justice as history repeated itself. The one significant difference is that in 2016, Morgan needed to be talked down from the ledge.

His girlfriend, Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin), was shot when he was covering the business for his dad. She took a bullet meant for Morgan, who was also suffering from a manic episode after he went off his meds.

Sonny tried to talk Morgan down, but Morgan resisted. The scene included a gut-wrenching performance from Maurice Benard, as Sonny got up on the ledge with Morgan and said they would jump together.

Morgan finally came down from the ledge, and Sonny embraced his son. The scenes between Sonny and Morgan in 2016 and August 6th were gold.

Maurice Benard talked with Soaps In Depth about how complex the scenes were. He recently went through his own mental health crisis. Benard, like Sonny, also has bipolar disorder.

“It was my first day back,”

The actor revealed on Twitter.

“The first day I returned, it was just raw for me. I really felt that I could fall off that ledge.”

Benard admits that the storyline of Sonny’s medicine being tampered with has been rough for the actor.

“I was very difficult to play,”

He said.

“It sure has been a different beat. Difficult at times. I’ve never really played Sonny this way.”

Benard has been an advocate for several years. He has a popular podcast called “State of Mind,” where he interviews other actors and discusses topics related to mental health. Benard recently talked about how he had to take time off the show during this storyline because it was very raw and got too real.

Thankfully, the storyline has reached the inevitable conclusion of Sonny walking into Kevin’s office to ask for help.

“It’s always about the message if we’re lucky,”

Benard declared.
