General Hospital fans will have to get used to the fact that Nicholas Alexander Chavez won’t be reprising his role of Spencer Cassadine any time soon. The latest trailer for his new project, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, has dropped, and the tense thriller illustrates what an amazing actor he is.

Knocking It Out of the Park

The newest promo for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was released on August 4 to Netflix’s official YouTube Page, and it’s a doozy.

Showing far more than previous teaser trailers, we saw Chavez unleash his full acting potential. Fans who enjoyed his run as Spencer know what he’s capable of, and his 2022 win of the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series drives that point home. Considering GH was his first acting gig, it is a testament to his skill, and now he’s poised for more high-profile projects.

The trailer unleashes its creepiness upon the audience as we see the Menendez brothers, Lyle (Chavez) and Erick (Cooper Koch), in a reenactment of the tragic, real-world event where they m.u.r.d.e.r.ed. their parents and what happened in the aftermath. In one scene, someone — presumably a psychiatrist — is asking the brothers how they became close, to which Chavez’ Lyle responds, “Erik and I killed our parents together, so, I’d say that makes us pretty close.”

Brilliant As Lyle

“Our life was one thing, and we decided we weren’t gonna take that anymore,” says Lyle later to Erik, as the scene is intercut with shots of the father, Jose Menendez (Javier Bardem), being abusive. Chavez plays the character with a lackadaisical demeanor, as if k.i.l.l.in.g. his parents was akin to grocery shopping.

The trailer further shows the brothers on a spending spree with thousands of dollars, which leaned into the real-world prosecution’s argument that they killed their parents for the money. However, their defense was that the father was abusive to them.

A shot of them practicing shooting at a firing range is chilling, and at one point, we hear Lyle say, “Starting right now, we’re gonna demand more out of life. And we are never gonna f****ng go back.”

Even more horrifying is the slow-motion shot of the brothers then firing their s.h.o.t.g.u.n.s in their house. It ends with Lyle saying, “Erik, I know that they would be proud of us,” and we now fully understand that he’s the polar opposite of GH’s Spencer. The mini-series debuts on Netflix on September 19.

His Resume is Fast Expanding

Chavez also has another gig coming up, which is a thriller called Grotesquerie, created by Ryan Murphy, who co-created Monsters. Clearly, he liked working with the actor and saw his potential.

So, with all of these projects coming up where Chavez shows off his tremendous acting talent, it’s no surprise that we don’t expect to see him on GH in the near future.
