Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick was deeply moved after filming the tragic demise of her on-screen partner, Suzy Merton, portrayed by Martelle Edinborough.

Suzy met a heartbreaking end in a catastrophic limousine crash that also claimed the lives of Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson).

Despite desperate attempts by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) to save her, Suzy was pronounced dead,

leaving Michelle’s character, Vanessa Woodfield, faced with the painful decision to abandon her in order to survive.

Reflecting on the gut-wrenching moment, Michelle shared, “The point when Vanessa had to leave Suzy in there was absolutely heartbreaking and horrific.”

The intensity of the scenes deeply affected the actress, as she admitted,

“It was so, so upsetting. It was also Martelle’s last few days on set, which made it even harder and more emotional.”

Michelle candidly revealed how the overwhelming nature of the experience took a toll on her emotionally. “There was one moment when I broke down in tears off-camera because it all just became too much,” she confessed.

Despite the sorrowful nature of the storyline, Michelle acknowledged the high-quality production of the dramatic sequence, saying, “It was bittersweet. It was one of the best things I’ve filmed in my career—it felt like being on a Hollywood set—but we knew we were losing some of our colleagues, which made it incredibly tough.”

As Vanessa grapples with the aftermath of the devastating accident, Michelle shared insights into how her character will cope. “The whole village is mourning. Everyone who died had connections throughout the community. The main support for Vanessa will come from her sister, Tracy, her best friend, Rhona, and Mary Goskirk. Mary and Suzy shared a very close friendship, something Vanessa was well aware of. In the coming weeks, Mary will likely be Vanessa’s biggest source of support.”

Martelle Edinborough, bidding farewell to the long-running soap, took to social media to express her gratitude and reflect on her journey. “And just like that… Suzy is no more, and a new chapter begins! What an episode! It has been such a blessing to be part of such an iconic show that I grew up watching and that is loved by so many! #Journeys.”

With the village in mourning and Vanessa struggling to come to terms with her loss, Emmerdale fans can expect powerful and emotional scenes as the impact of the tragedy unfolds.
