An upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay) is determined to uncover

the truth about what really happened to her grandfather, Anthony (Nicholas Day). As time goes on, her suspicions continue to grow, fueled by a nagging feeling that her parents, Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb (William Ash), are hiding something significant about his mysterious disappearance.

Unbeknownst to Steph, there is a fragile and highly dangerous pact in place among several

villagers, all sworn to secrecy about Anthony’s fate. Viewers are already aware that Anthony was a vile man, whose dark past came to light when Caleb uncovered shocking details about his abusive nature. Not only had Anthony subjected Ruby to abuse in the past, but he was also revealed to be the biological father of Steph—something she remains completely unaware of.
The situation escalated when Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) became involved. Upon learning about Anthony’s abusive history, Aaron confronted him in a fit of rage. Anthony, never one to back down, cruelly taunted Aaron, bringing back painful memories of Aaron’s own past abuse at the hands of his father. Unable to control his fury, Aaron lashed out, delivering a brutal beating to Anthony, leaving him severely wounded.

However, it was ultimately Ruby who delivered the fatal blow. Finding Anthony in a dire state after Aaron’s attack, she seized the moment and ended his life. Now, with Anthony dead, the problem of what to do with his body fell into the hands of those trying to cover up the crime. John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) stepped in, mistakenly believing that Aaron had killed Anthony and desperate to protect him from a prison sentence. He took it upon himself to dispose of the body. Now, several people were complicit in keeping the truth buried—John, Aaron, Caleb, Ruby, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Together, they made a pact to stick to the agreed-upon story: Anthony had simply left the village.
Ruby, more than anyone, is adamant that Steph must never learn the truth—not just about Anthony’s death, but about his true identity as her biological father. Despite the recent turmoil in their family—especially after Steph discovered that Ruby had been unfaithful with Cain Dingle—Ruby remains steadfast in her belief that her daughter must be shielded from the devastating reality of her lineage. Caleb, standing by Ruby despite everything, supports this decision.

However, Steph is not one to back down easily. Unsettled by the inconsistencies in her parents’ behavior, she decides to seek out Cain Dingle to see if he corroborates Caleb’s version of events. With Cain and Caleb having a long history of animosity—especially after Caleb exposed Cain’s affair with Ruby just before the limo crash—it’s no surprise that Steph is becoming increasingly suspicious. Her instincts tell her that there are secrets being kept from her, and she is determined to unearth them.
Her suspicions intensify when she receives an unexpected phone call from a friend of Anthony’s, who was under the impression that he was planning to visit. Steph is taken aback, but it’s Ruby’s visible reaction to the call that really raises alarm bells. The tension in her mother’s voice, the panicked glances—everything suggests that there is far more to Anthony’s disappearance than she has been led to believe.
Georgia Jay, who plays Steph, has teased that her character will go into full detective mode. “What we see in Steph here is that she’s turning detective. It’s like figuring out a crime. She’s really clever and she’s putting it all together slowly,” she revealed.
Caleb, realizing the risk, attempts to put an end to Steph’s investigation by enlisting Ross Barton (Mike Parr) to intervene. But his plan backfires spectacularly when Ross unintentionally drops a hint that piques Steph’s curiosity even further.

“She gets this insight with Ross, figuring out that something’s not right with him as well,” Georgia explained. “She gets a sudden insight to look in the safe, and when she does, she finds the revolver in there.”
The revolver in question is a key piece of evidence—it’s the very weapon that Caleb once used to threaten Anthony during a terrifying game of Russian roulette. Seeing the gun, Steph immediately jumps to the conclusion that this is the murder weapon, proof that her grandfather didn’t just leave the village—he was killed.
Not wasting a moment, she storms off to confront Caleb directly. Holding up the gun, she challenges him outright, demanding to know the truth.
Georgia Jay shared more about the intense confrontation that follows: “She doesn’t hang around and goes straight to Caleb. Steph comes straight out with it and confronts Caleb with the revolver.”
Knowing he’s cornered, Caleb quickly fabricates a cover story. “He is straight away very defensive and comes up with some story that it was used as a threat for Cain after he found out about Ruby and Cain together,” Georgia revealed. “He’s quite quick on it and comes up with quite an elaborate story which has a bit of truth, so he’s quick on his feet to think of that.”
With tensions reaching breaking point, Steph isn’t sure what to believe—but she’s more determined than ever to get to the bottom of what really happened to Anthony. As she continues to dig deeper, will she finally uncover the dark truth her parents have been so desperate to keep hidden?
