Samson Dingle made a poignant departure from Emmerdale after 18 years on Tuesday (August 6).

The character, played Sam Hall, faced a harsh four-year imprisonment for falsely claiming he was stabbed by Matty Barton (played by Ash Palmisciano) at The Hide.

In a dramatic twist, the day before his trial, Samson was apprehended by police at The Woolpack for assaulting thug Josh Cope (Osian Morgan),

despite urging him earlier to confess his role in Matty’s predicament.

The situation escalated quickly, resulting in Samson being arrested for attacking Josh while his distraught parents, Sam (James Hooton)

and Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick), could only look on as their son was taken into custody by the authorities.

On the following day (August 6) with Samson preparing for his court appearance, he managed to call his father Sam with some “good news”.

“The police have got Josh, on Eric’s video doorbell”, he revealed, “and he’s said it’s enough to incriminate himself about what happened to Matty.”

Samson also confirmed: “So he’s been arrested and he’s going to get charged too”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The young Dingle made it clear that Josh would be held accountable for his actions, which led to Matty’s unjust incarceration stemming from their shenanigans at The Hide.

The pub crowd at The Woolpack was later informed by Lydia that Samson had received a sentence of four years behind bars.

In the heart-wrenching final scene, Sam was seen brimming with pride for his son Samson’s honesty.

He expressed his hopes for Samson to seize new opportunities during his time behind bars and eagerly awaits his return home in two years, provided he keeps out of trouble.

The pair shared a poignant goodbye, affirming their love amidst tears, before Samson was escorted off to begin his sentence.

However, Emmerdale viewers have been left scratching their heads over one unresolved issue: the fate of Josh. Flocking to social media, one viewer posted: “So Josh gets away with it all? #Emmerdale.”

Another voiced their frustration: “So the Josh storyline is finished just like that! #Cobblers #emmerdale”, and a third added: “I hope we find out what the Josh get’s? #emmerdale.”

Questions continued to pour in from the audience, with one person asking, “4 years for Samson, what about Josh? … #emmerdale”.

Another comment read: “Ooft 4 years you won’t be missed Samson and what did Josh get I wonder #Emmerdale.”
