Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is a man at the end of his tether on Emmerdale, mainly because every time he pops into the kitchen at Butlers, he can’t be sure which version of his wife Moira (Natalie J. Robb) he’s going to be confronted with.
Moira has been having some extreme mood-swings recently. One moment she’s hurling insults and crockery at Cain’s head and the next minute she’s being flirtatious and loving, with apparently no recollection of her earlier volatile behaviour.
In Monday (August 26)’s episode she’d returned from buying a new bull and Cain was angry that she hadn’t kept in touch with him while she was away and he had no idea what to tell Isaac (Bobby Dunsmoir) and Kyle (Huey Quinn) when they asked when she was coming back.
He was worried about her drinking and wasn’t pleased that she had a full bottle of whisky in her bag – which she said was a present for him. When she tried to cuddle up to him he couldn’t cope and pushed her aside.
In a new spoiler video Cain comes back home to find Moira and his son Nate (Jurell Carter) drinking the whisky together. ‘Here’s to us!’ Moira says.
Cain hasn’t seen that just before this Moira has been talking about the fact that the farm has secured a big contract to supply more meat to a customer.
Moira doesn’t help the situation by referring to herself and Nate as ‘the dynamic duo.’ It will doubtless be in the back of Cain’s mind that his wife and his son once had a steamy affair. This was before Cain discovered that Nate was his son. In the aftermath of all of this coming out into the open, Cain and Moira’s marriage was left hanging by a thread and Moira turned to heavy drinking to cope.
In the video, Nate is clearly uneasy as Moira talks up his role in getting her to buy a new bull, and he keeps shooting anxious glances at Cain.
‘We’re good together, you and me,’ Moira tells Nate as Cain looks on, seething. ‘We’re both adventurous, we both take risks.’ When Nate makes an excuse to leave, Moira accuses him of being ‘As boring as your old man’ and blows a raspberry.
Alone together, Cain accuses his wife of trying to wind him up on purpose and tells her to ‘Show some respect.’ She says she didn’t know her and Nate was still a sore subject and he says she’s making it that way.
‘I don’t know who you are any more and, do you know what? I’m sick of it,’ he says and walks out, leaving Moira looking genuinely puzzled about what just transpired.
