‘Just before they set off for the cottage they go round to the house and break in and he sees lots of red flags dotted around the house such as cameras

and all kinds of security things that make them think, “That’s a bit odd.” They realise that Belle’s phone’s there and hot-foot it to Wales.’

When they get there, they find the cottage has been completely trashed and there’s blood on the walls – and no sign of Belle or Tom.

‘I don’t think Cain quite believes it until he gets there,’ Jeff said of the moment Cain finally realises

that Charity’s instincts about Tom have been correct and Tom may have done something terrible to Belle.

Jeff was in no doubt that Cain would want to take revenge against Tom if anything bad had happened to Belle.

‘It’s his little sister,’ he reasoned. ‘I think if somebody hurt his little sister in particular I think there’s no saying what Cain would do. He’ll do what he needs to do to make things right.’

Ever since this storyline began, viewers have been desperate for someone to see through Tom’s veneer of niceness and do something to help Belle, with a lot of people hoping that it would be Cain. Jeff understands this idea and is a little bit amused by the role Cain has now assumed with the Emmerdale fans.

‘It’s interesting that Cain, this once not very liked figure by a lot of the viewers when I first joined, they now see him as this kind of hero who can go in and save the day for other people – in a not very nice way,’ he laughed.

Cain has never shied away from dishing out justice when he feels it’s necessary, although recently we’ve seen him becoming slightly less likely to think with his fists first. Jeff traced this change in his character back to when Cain went to prison to protect his son Kyle (Huey Quinn) after the killing of Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

‘The spell in prison and realising what that meant for him to be away from his family, although he was doing it to protect Kyle. I don’t think he’s going to throw himself into a dangerous position as easily as that again, to be away from all his family,’ he said.

‘But it is Cain and his DNA is always going to be within him, so who knows what he’s capable of?’

Whether it’s Cain who dishes out Tom’s punishment or not, Jeff was clear that we will see Tom get his comeuppance.

‘This is what we have to see because it’s an important storyline in that this coercive behaviour that happens, people find themselves in these relationships. It’s good that it’s been told over a period and they’ve not made it short, because these things don’t just happen over a few months.

‘And everybody loves Belle, don’t they?’

As they arrived at the secluded cottage, the sense of dread grew stronger. The broken windows and splintered door were clear signs of a violent struggle. Cain’s heart sank as he saw the blood spattered across the walls, knowing that his worst fears may have come true. Belle and Tom were nowhere to be found, leaving a void of uncertainty and fear. The realization hit Cain like a ton of bricks – Charity had been right all along about Tom. The red flags scattered throughout the house only confirmed their suspicions. Belle’s abandoned phone served as a chilling reminder of the danger she was in. Cain’s protective instincts kicked into high gear, ready to do whatever it takes to find his sister and bring her to safety. The thought of Tom causing harm to Belle ignited a fire within Cain. He would stop at nothing to ensure that justice is served and that Tom faces the consequences of his actions. The transformation from a once disliked character to a beacon of hope in the eyes of Emmerdale fans was not lost on Jeff, who found amusement in Cain’s newfound hero status.Cain’s evolution from a hotheaded troublemaker to a more thoughtful and family-oriented man was evident. His time in prison had changed him, making him more cautious and mindful of the consequences of his actions. However, the essence of Cain remained, hinting at a potential reckoning that could shake the foundations of the town.Whether Cain ultimately delivers Tom’s punishment or not, one thing is certain – Tom will face the music for his wrongdoings. The storyline of coercive behavior and toxic relationships struck a chord with viewers, highlighting the importance of addressing such issues over time. Belle’s beloved status only adds to the urgency of bringing justice to her abuser.Stay tuned for more updates and insightful content to keep you informed and engaged.
