Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant has confirmed that actor Joshua John will be leaving the ITV soap just weeks after making his debut as Rich Thompson.

Rich, a trainee doctor and close friend to Plant’s character, Jacob Gallagher, was introduced last month, and his presence in the village has sparked various reactions among the locals.

Joe-Warren recently opened up about Jacob and Rich’s friendship, explaining how their shared profession has created a strong bond between them.

“They have a lot in common doing the same job,” he noted.

However, he also pointed out that the pressures of working in medicine can lead individuals to develop unhealthy coping mechanisms.

“The pressures that brings open people up to coping mechanisms that can go down the wrong path.

I think both of them struggle with that in a sense. I think Jacob can be easily led.”

Despite their friendship, Joe-Warren hinted at underlying differences between the two characters, suggesting that they are not entirely on the same page when it comes to personal values. “Rich is a good friend to Jacob, but there’s a lot of things in between. They are not exactly built on the same morals. Jacob is always quite a nice and fairly behaved lad.”

He further elaborated on Jacob’s current struggles, revealing that his character has been facing personal challenges that have led him to make questionable decisions. “Jacob has a lot going on. To let off steam, he’s been taking it down the wrong path, and I think his friends do have a little bit to play in that role.”

Reflecting on his time working alongside Joshua John, Joe-Warren had nothing but praise for the departing actor. “Josh is a great lad,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “It was lovely working with him over the couple of months that he was here.”

Interestingly, Joe-Warren admitted that rather than offering advice to his co-star, he found himself learning from Joshua instead. “I don’t think I really gave him any advice. It was more the other way around.”

Acknowledging Joshua’s background in theatre, Joe-Warren shared his admiration for his colleague’s experience and talent. “Josh comes from a theatre background, and he’s done a lot of work in London and things like that.”

He concluded by emphasizing Joshua’s dedication to acting and his natural ability. “It was nice to go back and forth and share stories. He’s a great guy and loves the craft. He’s very talented as well.”

With Joshua John’s exit from Emmerdale imminent, fans may be left wondering what this means for Jacob Gallagher and how Rich Thompson’s departure will impact the storyline. Jacob’s struggles have been a focal point in recent weeks, and without Rich in the picture, it remains to be seen how he will navigate the challenges ahead.

Emmerdale continues to keep viewers on their toes with unexpected twists and character departures, and Rich’s exit is no exception. While his time in the village may have been brief, Joshua John’s portrayal of Rich has left an impression on both fans and cast members alike. As his storyline comes to an end, audiences will be eager to see what the future holds for both the actor and the character he brought to life on-screen.
