EastEnders icons Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell recently reunited, much to the delight of fans who are still holding out hope for their dramatic return to Albert Square.

In recent weeks, the BBC soap has welcomed back several familiar faces for its milestone 50th anniversary,

with characters such as Grant Mitchell, Nigel Bates, and even the late Angie Watts making appearances.

However, despite their tragic on-screen deaths, calls for the beloved Mitchell sisters to come back from the dead continue to grow.

Samantha Womack and Rita Simons, who played Ronnie and Roxy, originally joined EastEnders in 2007.

The sisters quickly became central figures in the show’s biggest storylines, from their business ventures as Ibiza pub owners to their emotional struggles in Walford.

One of the most controversial plots involving Ronnie saw her secretly swapping her deceased newborn with Kat Slater’s baby, Tommy, a twist that left viewers shocked.

The sisters met a devastating end on New Year’s Day in 2017, just hours after Ronnie married her long-time love, Jack Branning. The wedding should have marked a fresh start for the Mitchell sisters, but instead, it turned into a heartbreaking farewell. Roxy suffered a fatal heart attack after diving into a swimming pool, and in a desperate attempt to save her, Ronnie was tragically pulled under the water due to the weight of her wedding dress. Their deaths left fans heartbroken and sparked controversy, with many believing their exit was too final for such iconic characters.

Despite their absence from EastEnders, Samantha and Rita remain close friends. The duo recently enjoyed a night out together, attending the opening night of The Last Laugh, a play based on the life of the legendary comedian Tommy Cooper. Their appearance together reignited excitement among fans, many of whom have long been campaigning for their return to the soap.

Rita shared heartfelt photos of their reunion on social media, showing the two actresses smiling for the camera as they enjoyed an evening in London’s Theatre District. In her caption, she expressed her pride in their friend Bob Golding, who stars in the production. “Never been more proud of my gorgeous friend @bobgolding. What an incredible show! If you can get to see this show, please do! @thelastlaughplay #thelastlaughplay everyone was just awesome. Brilliant night…we love you all @evolutionproductionsuk.”

As soon as the pictures were posted, fans flooded the comments section with messages of joy, nostalgia, and continued hope that the Mitchell sisters might one day return to Walford.

Many viewers have suggested that EastEnders could bring the characters back through a shocking twist, as the soap has revived other characters thought to be dead in the past. Some fans speculated that their deaths were never properly shown on screen and that there could be a way to explain their survival. Others simply expressed their sadness that the sisters were killed off so permanently, believing their characters still had so much more to offer.

The enduring love for Ronnie and Roxy proves just how much of an impact they had on EastEnders and its audience. Their time in Albert Square was filled with drama, romance, and heartbreak, making them two of the most memorable characters in the show’s history.

While there has been no official word on whether the soap will ever bring them back, the latest reunion between Samantha and Rita has certainly reignited the conversation. Whether through flashbacks, dream sequences, or an unexpected twist, fans remain hopeful that one day, the Mitchell sisters will walk back into the Queen Vic once more.
