Thursday night’s episode of EastEnders saw the departure of Grant Mitchell from Albert Square once again.

However, viewers are already speculating that his exit may not be permanent.

Ross Kemp reprised his iconic role as Grant for the soap’s 40th-anniversary episodes after nearly a decade away.

His return was packed with drama as he found himself at the center of his brother Phil Mitchell’s ongoing struggles with mental health.

As always, Grant’s presence stirred up tension, confrontations, and unresolved emotions, leaving fans eager to see what might come next for the legendary character.

During his brief time back in Walford, Grant had several emotional and significant encounters with key figures in his life.

He clashed with his family, was rejected by Phil, and rekindled an old flame with Sharon Watts.

His past feuds also resurfaced, particularly with Bianca Jackson, but before leaving, he attempted to mend bridges.

One of the most touching moments of his return was a heartfelt conversation with Sharon, Phil, Bianca, and longtime friend Nigel Bates in separate scenes. When Bianca questioned why he always seemed to run from Walford, Grant admitted that he had unfinished business to handle in Portugal, making it clear that staying was not an option for him at the moment.

In a moment of self-reflection, Grant acknowledged his past mistakes and expressed regret for not being there for Phil. He made a promise to change his ways and stay in touch, hinting at a possible renewed relationship between the Mitchell brothers. Meanwhile, he encouraged Nigel, who has been struggling with dementia, to consider joining him in Portugal, showing a more compassionate and supportive side of his character.

Sharon also challenged Grant about his estranged son, Mark Fowler Jr. After realizing that Mark now knew the truth about his paternity, Grant decided to leave the door open for a future relationship but on Mark’s terms. He recognized that pushing too hard might drive Mark further away and instead chose to wait until his son was ready to reconnect.

Before leaving, Grant made it clear that he had obligations to take care of, including his daughter Courtney Mitchell. He expressed his desire to be a better father and friend, acknowledging that in order to support those he cared about, he first needed to sort out his own life.

Though Grant’s departure seemed final for now, the way his exit was framed strongly suggested that his story is far from over. His words about needing to change, along with multiple references to his commitments abroad and to his loved ones, left many fans convinced that this was merely a temporary goodbye.

Social media quickly lit up with speculation about a potential return. One fan commented, “I think Grant WILL be back at some stage, maybe for a big event like a funeral.” Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “Yes, Grant will return,” while a third speculated, “I hope we see him again down the line, maybe with Mark by his side.”

Given the emotional depth of his final scenes and the unresolved nature of his relationships, it’s entirely possible that Grant Mitchell will make another dramatic comeback to EastEnders in the future. Whether he returns alone, with his children, or under unforeseen circumstances, his presence will undoubtedly shake up Albert Square once again.
