EastEnders fans bid farewell to a familiar face as Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, departed Walford once again in an emotional exit that aired on February 27.

His departure marked the end of a brief but impactful return, during which he reunited with old friends, family, and former flames while grappling with heartbreaking revelations.

Grant returned to Albert Square after nearly nine years away, answering a call for help from his longtime friend Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley).

Nigel had reached out, urging Grant to support his brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who had been struggling with his mental health.

However, upon arriving in Walford, Grant was blindsided by the shocking news that Nigel himself had been diagnosed with a terminal form of dementia.

The revelation left Grant reeling, forcing him to confront the fragility of life and the pain of watching a loved one slip away.

Throughout his brief stay, Grant reconnected with his ex-wife Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), who had been devastated by the tragic death of Martin Fowler (James Bye). As Sharon struggled to come to terms with the loss of her longtime friend, Grant offered her much-needed support, rekindling the deep bond they once shared. Though their history is complicated, Grant’s presence provided Sharon with a momentary sense of comfort amid the chaos.

As Grant processed Nigel’s devastating diagnosis, he made a heartfelt plea for his friend to move to Portugal with him, hoping to take care of him during his final days. Initially, Nigel appeared moved by the offer and seemed ready to accept. However, in an emotional twist, he ultimately decided to remain in Walford, wanting to stay close to Phil and be there for him in his time of need.

The goodbye between Grant and Nigel was nothing short of gut-wrenching. Standing outside the tube station, the two friends shared a tearful farewell. With emotion in his voice, Nigel expressed his desire to remember the moment, while Grant, visibly shaken, urged him never to forget their friendship. The scene left viewers deeply moved, highlighting the strong bond between the two characters.

Following Grant’s departure, EastEnders fans took to social media to share their reactions, with many speculating about his potential return. Given Nigel’s worsening condition, some viewers believe that Grant will come back to Walford for the heartbreaking final moments of Nigel’s storyline. Many fans pointed to the possibility of a Christmas return, with some predicting an emotional reunion between Grant and a Nigel who may no longer recognize him due to his illness.

One fan shared on social media, “That Grant & Nigel scene had me in tears. They should bring Grant back for the end of Nigel’s storyline. #EastEnders.” Another wrote, “It’s going to be all the more heart-breaking when Grant does return, and Nigel doesn’t remember him. #EastEnders.” A third viewer added, “I really hope they bring Grant back for Nigel’s final moments. It would be such a powerful storyline.”

Grant’s return to EastEnders was a reminder of the show’s ability to blend nostalgia with deeply emotional storytelling. His brief stint not only reignited relationships but also showcased his character’s growth over the years. While his departure leaves a void, fans remain hopeful that this won’t be the last they see of him. With Nigel’s heartbreaking fate still unfolding, many believe that Grant’s return is inevitable, setting the stage for another poignant chapter in his story.

For now, Grant Mitchell has left Walford, but as EastEnders viewers know, the Mitchells always have a way of finding their way back home. Whether it’s to bid farewell to an old friend or face unfinished business, the door remains open for Ross Kemp’s return to the Square in the future.
