The EastEnders community is still reeling from the shocking departure of James Bye, who portrayed Martin Fowler for 11 years. 

His character met a tragic end during the soap’s landmark 40th-anniversary live episode, which aired on February 20. 

Martin’s demise was the result of a devastating explosion at the Queen Vic, where he was fatally injured by a falling steel beam.

Among those paying tribute is Molly Rainford, who plays Anna Knight on the BBC soap. 

She took to social media to share her heartfelt thoughts on the passing of Martin Fowler from Albert Square, as well as her gratitude for working alongside James Bye. 

In a touching Instagram post, she shared an emotional video capturing the cast gathering to bid farewell to the actor.

Molly captioned her post, saying, “Can’t believe it’s been a week since the live!! Genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever experienced. The talent of the entire cast and crew of @bbceastenders is something I’ll always be in awe of.” She went on to acknowledge several of her co-stars, including Natalie Cassidy, Jacqueline Jossa, Patsy Palmer, Diane Parish, Aaron Thiara, Scott Maslen, and Lacey Turner, all of whom played significant roles in the live episode.

Molly expressed particular gratitude for James Bye, referring to him as her “first Enders friend” and “mentor.” She added, “Jimmy – the first Enders friend I had (thanks to another crazy experience) & my EE Mentor, I feel very lucky to have been able to work alongside you and learn from you. You’re so loved, and there’ll always be a big fruit and veg man-sized hole in the Square.”

James Bye, clearly moved by the tribute, responded in the comments, writing, “Love ya Mols! You’ll always be my press junket pal.” His warm reply highlights the strong bonds formed between cast members on and off-screen.

The comments section of Molly’s post was flooded with messages from devastated fans who are still coming to terms with Martin Fowler’s death.
