Emmerdale star Danny Miller has shared his feelings on one of his ITV soap stars joining a rival programme.

Ryan Hawley, who portrayed the character of Robert Sugden in the soap from 2014 to 2019, left the Dales behind five years ago before landing a job on BBC’s Casualty earlier this year.

Robert’s final scenes saw him jailed after he was arrested by the police, turning himself in for the attack on Lee Posner, who had raped his sister Victoria.

Speaking at Radio Times Soap Awards, when asked how he feels about Ryan joining Casualty, Danny joked: “Traitor!”

He told Express.co.uk and other press that he will still in regular contact with his former co-star, as he added: “No, he’s a great actor and I speak to him all the time so hopefully he does a good job.

“But I’m sure he will, just like with everything else he’s done. I’m excited for him.”

Ryan returned to screens in June, playing the role Jamie Cleveland, a member of the board at Holby City Hospital in Casualty. The character is a man of mystery as not much insight has been given into his background.

However, viewers are aware that he has known Cam Micklethwaite (Barney Walsh) for many years, although they hadn’t seen each other for ten years before his appointment.

This weekend things took a turn in the long-running BBC medical drama, when some very dark elements of his past seemed to rear their heads and viewers think they had forgotten his dark secret.

As he was confronted by him in the Holby corridors Siobhan McKenzie enquired if it was a difficult patient. “He’s the one I’ve got the restraining order against,” Jamie said as he hot footed it away.

When they finally got to Siobhan’s office he explained further. “It was when I volunteered with the youth group. He became obsessed with me. I tried to distance myself and he went off the rails – he burnt down the centre. And that’s when he made his accusation,” he said ominously.
