Matthew Martin, a modeling agent and partner of Coronation Street star Rob Mallard, made a surprise cameo in the ITV soap on Wednesday, February 26.

However, his brief appearance did not see him sharing scenes with Rob’s character, Daniel Osbourne.

Instead, Matthew played a crucial role in Cassie Plummer’s dramatic storyline, which recently took a shocking turn when her secret crimes were finally exposed.

Cassie, portrayed by Claire Sweeney, had been taking advantage of Ken Barlow (William Roache) by using his credit card for her own personal purchases.

She cleverly disguised her fraudulent spending, making up plausible excuses each time a new charge appeared.

But her web of lies quickly unraveled as Ken began piecing together the truth.

In the latest episodes, Ken experienced a troubling moment when he attempted to make a purchase at a shop only to find that his card had been declined. His suspicions were further heightened when Cassie repeatedly tried to dissuade him from investigating his finances. Sensing deception, Ken insisted that Cassie go back to the shop and pay in cash while he stayed behind, pretending to be exhausted.

As soon as Cassie left, Ken wasted no time and immediately began checking his financial records. When she returned with a cup of tea for him, he subtly switched their mugs, leading to a tense confrontation. As he questioned Cassie’s reluctance to drink from the swapped cup, it became clear that she had drugged his tea in an attempt to keep him from uncovering her scheme.

Ken confronted Cassie with the evidence against her, including the accusations made by Bertie Osbourne and the unexplained deliveries he had received. Under pressure, Cassie finally admitted to her deceit. However, the emotional strain of the revelation took a toll on Ken, causing him to collapse. Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) found him unresponsive and quickly called for medical assistance. Ken was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a heart attack and would require surgery to fit a stent.

As Cassie faced the consequences of her actions, Tracy confronted her in a heated showdown on the street. Their altercation was soon interrupted by the arrival of two police officers, one of whom was played by Matthew Martin. The dramatic moment saw Cassie being arrested, marking the climax of her deceitful scheme.

Following his brief but significant role in the soap, Matthew took to Instagram to share his excitement about appearing on Coronation Street. He posted behind-the-scenes photos of himself in police uniform alongside Rob Mallard, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity.

“Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer/@claire.sweeney,” he wrote.

He also extended his thanks to casting director @mossy737 for the opportunity and to his partner, Rob Mallard, for being a supportive presence and helping him navigate the experience.

Rob and Matthew’s relationship became public around 2023, and since then, the couple has shared glimpses of their life together on social media. Before dating Matthew, Rob was in a relationship with his Coronation Street co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew in the long-running soap.

While Matthew’s role in Coronation Street was a brief one, it was a memorable moment for fans of the show and for the actor himself. Whether this appearance could lead to more opportunities in the world of acting remains to be seen, but for now, it’s clear that Matthew cherished the experience of stepping into Weatherfield’s drama-filled streets.
