The General Hospital universe is full of rich family legacies, and one of the most well-known is the Spencer family.

Over the years, fans have watched as new generations of Spencers have grown up on screen, bringing fresh energy and new storylines to the long-running soap.
Among the latest additions to the cast is Colin Cassidy, who took over the role of Aiden Webber in October 2024.
Aiden, the son of Elizabeth Webber and Lucky Spencer, has been a part of the General Hospital landscape for years.

Now, with Colin stepping into the character’s shoes, the young actor is adjusting to life on a daytime drama and embracing the challenges that come with it.

In a recent conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Colin opened up about his audition process, his early days on set,

and what it has been like to work with his General Hospital co-stars.
A Major Audition and a Lucky Break
For Colin, landing the role of Aiden Webber was no small feat. He described the audition process as one of the most significant moments of his career so far. “It was one of the biggest auditions I’ve had,” he shared, explaining that he had been working on smaller projects to build up experience and establish himself as an actor. When the opportunity for General Hospital came along, he knew he had to take it seriously.
“I just got very lucky with this one, and I made sure I was prepared for it,” he said.
Despite feeling confident about his audition, Colin admitted that he didn’t hear back right away. The waiting period left him uncertain, but when he finally received the callback, he was both thrilled and nervous. Walking into the next round of auditions, he was met with a room full of young actors who looked just like him.
“It was very daunting at first because I walked in, and there were 10 other kids who looked just like me,” he recalled. However, instead of letting the nerves get to him, Colin stayed focused. “I just went in, stuck to my training, tried to be as personable as I could, and just got the job done.”

When he finally received confirmation that he had been cast as Aiden Webber, the excitement in his household was overwhelming. “There was just a lot of screaming and happiness and crying. It was a joyous thing, very celebratory,” he said, describing his family’s reaction.
Learning the Ropes on General Hospital
Stepping onto the General Hospital set for the first time was an entirely new experience for Colin. He admitted that while he was eager to get started, he also felt nervous about entering such an established and fast-paced environment. Fortunately, he had a great mentor in Rebecca Herbst, who plays his on-screen mother, Elizabeth Webber.
Calling her both loving and professional, Colin expressed his gratitude for Rebecca’s guidance during his early days on the show. “She showed me how soaps work and really helped me through the process,” he said.
From learning the ins and outs of blocking and rehearsals to figuring out where to go for hair and makeup, Rebecca made sure he knew what to expect on set. “She was just incredibly helpful with all of that,” Colin added.

Being new to the soap opera world, Colin quickly realized that daytime dramas operate differently from other types of acting projects. The fast-paced filming schedule, multiple scenes per day, and long hours on set were an adjustment, but he credited his co-stars, especially Rebecca, for helping him settle in.
“She really was like a motherly figure guiding me through my first day on set, and I can’t thank her enough for that,” he said.
Excitement for the Future
Now that he’s several months into playing Aiden Webber, Colin is eager to explore the character further and see what storylines lie ahead. With General Hospital always full of surprises, there’s no telling what’s next for Aiden or how his role in the Spencer family will evolve.
As he continues to grow into the character, Colin remains grateful for the opportunity and the experience he’s gaining. With a strong support system on set and an exciting role in one of television’s most iconic soap operas, his journey on General Hospital is just getting started.
