Emmerdale Suzy Star’s Next Move: New Role on Rival Soap After Shock Exit

Emmerdale fans were left heartbroken after Suzy Merton, played by actress Martelle Edinborough, met a tragic end in the latest dramatic episode.

However, speculation is already mounting about what’s next for the talented actress, with strong rumors suggesting she could be heading to a rival soap opera for her next role.

Martelle first joined the Emmerdale cast in 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite, especially for her on-screen romance with Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).

Despite Suzy’s troubled past, including struggles with substance abuse, her relationship with Vanessa won over audiences.

However, Suzy’s journey in the Dales came to an abrupt and heartbreaking halt when she became one of the victims of a devastating limousine crash.

The stunt, which saw multiple villagers’ lives at risk, reached its peak when one of the limousines veered off course and plunged into a freezing lake. While Vanessa tried desperately to save Suzy, the impact of the crash proved fatal. The emotional farewell left viewers in shock, marking Martelle Edinborough’s final appearance on the show.

Following her departure, Martelle took to social media to reflect on her time on Emmerdale, expressing gratitude for being part of the long-running soap. “And just like that… Suzy is no more, and a new chapter begins! It’s been such a blessing to have been part of such an iconic show,” she shared.

With her exit from Emmerdale confirmed, industry insiders and fans alike have been speculating about Martelle’s next move. According to reports, betting odds are already in place for her potential transition to another soap, with EastEnders emerging as a strong possibility. The betting agency Betway has placed odds at 4/1 for her to land a role on the BBC soap, which remains one of the only major British serial dramas she hasn’t yet been a part of.

Betway spokesperson Mike Reading commented on the speculation, saying, “Martelle has a history of excelling in scripted dramas, having already appeared in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. With EastEnders being the last major soap she hasn’t tackled, a move to Albert Square is looking like a real possibility.”

The possibility of Martelle joining EastEnders has sparked excitement among fans, with many envisioning her taking on a strong-willed character in Walford. Given her ability to portray complex roles, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her embrace a brand-new challenge in a different soap setting.

However, not everyone is convinced that she will remain in the world of soap operas. Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, weighed in on the actress’s potential career trajectory. “While stepping into another soap like EastEnders would be a natural progression, Martelle may choose to explore different avenues in her career. She could transition into more serious drama series or even explore opportunities in film,” he explained.

Martelle’s previous work outside of soap operas includes a role in the dark comedy short film The Tooth Fairy in 2020, showcasing her ability to take on diverse roles. Industry insiders believe this experience could pave the way for more projects in television and film beyond the world of soaps.

Regardless of where she goes next, Martelle Edinborough’s exit from Emmerdale has left a lasting impact on the show’s viewers. Her portrayal of Suzy Merton brought depth and intrigue to the character, and her dramatic send-off ensured that she would not be easily forgotten. Fans are now eagerly waiting for an official announcement about her next steps, whether it’s in Albert Square, on another TV drama, or even making waves in the film industry.

One thing is certain: Martelle Edinborough’s talent and presence will continue to shine, no matter where her career takes her next.
