The BBC has unveiled details about scenes that were ultimately cut from EastEnders’ recent live episode, which marked the climax of the show’s 40th-anniversary celebrations.

The highly anticipated episode featured a major character’s death and the resolution of a public vote that determined the fate of a significant love triangle.
Viewers were given the power to decide whether Denise Fox (Diane Parish) would choose Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) or Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).
The voting closed just 20 minutes before the live broadcast began, and it was revealed mid-episode that Jack had won the public’s favor.

Denise’s decision led her to Jack’s house, where she professed her love and commitment to him.

The couple embraced, and in the final moments of the episode, they were seen cuddled up on the sofa.

However, the BBC has now shared behind-the-scenes images from rehearsals that depict an alternate version of events—one in which Denise would have chosen Ravi had he won the vote.
The released images provide insight into how the storyline could have unfolded differently. In the alternative scenario, Denise would have gone to Ravi’s home instead of Jack’s, expressing her desire for a future with him. One image shows Denise and Ravi standing close together, with Ravi gently touching her face. Another depicts them sharing a passionate kiss, mirroring the moment that ultimately aired between Denise and Jack. A further image shows Denise wrapped in a blanket, nestled against Ravi on the sofa—a moment that would have replaced the scene of her and Jack at the end of the episode.
During the live episode, viewers saw Denise arrive at Jack’s house to confess her love. She told him, “I feel safe with you, Jack. I want to feel safe.” However, Jack questioned her choice, asking, “What about Ravi? What about when you want a bit of danger?” Denise reassured him, “No, it’s not like that. Ravi and me—it’d never go anywhere. We’re from two different worlds.”

Denise continued, “I see a future with you, Jack. And our history runs deep. My feelings haven’t changed. I still love you.” Jack remained skeptical, asking, “How do I know it’s going to be different this time?” Denise responded, “We forgot to make time for ourselves before. We’re not just parents—we’re people in our own right. I want that passion back. I want to listen and I want to be heard. I want to get to know you all over again.” Jack, in a moment of lightheartedness before their kiss, responded, “Hello, my name’s Jack Branning. Nice to meet you.”
Following the live broadcast, Diane Parish shared her thoughts on the outcome during a livestream. She expressed gratitude to fans, saying, “Thank you guys so much for everything you did voting. Tell me whether you are happy or not with the result, because I am very happy.” She also acknowledged Aaron Thiara, stating, “I’m of course sad for my mate Aaron.”
Parish admitted that she would have been content with either result, but she was particularly pleased with Jack’s victory. “I would have been happy if it was Ravi, but in a different way. But I’m happy that it’s Scott and Jack because there’s mileage there, and it’s family, innit? Family!” she remarked.

She also teased that Denise’s storyline is far from over. “There will still be more drama. It ain’t gonna end there. It’s not like Denise and Ravi are gonna be severed. We’re gonna still have to tell the story of what happened after, y’know? So let’s see.”
The decision to incorporate a public vote into a major storyline was a bold move for EastEnders, and the reaction from fans has been mixed. While many were thrilled to see Denise and Jack reunite, others were disappointed that Ravi was not chosen. The release of these behind-the-scenes rehearsal images has only fueled speculation about what could have been and what might still come in the evolving storyline.
EastEnders’ live episode was a landmark moment in the show’s history, and its interactive element made it even more engaging for viewers. While Denise has made her choice—for now—the drama in Albert Square is far from over.
