Emmerdale viewers are speculating that newcomer Ella Forster, played by Paula Lane, and a village resident could be related in a shocking twist for the ITV soap.
Ella made her first appearance earlier this year, carrying a dark secret that was eventually revealed – she had killed her best friend at the age of 11 and served time in prison. Now known as Ruth, she has spent her life moving around the country since her release.
Ella arrived in the Dales in January, hoping to find stability and even began a romance with GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). However, upon discovering her past as a child killer, Liam ended their relationship, still reeling from the murder of his own daughter Leanna (Mimi Slinger).
After fleeing the village in June, Ella returned recently under the belief she was pregnant with Liam’s child, only to find out she wasn’t, leaving her heartbroken.
Despite this setback, Ella has reintegrated into village life, but fans believe she’s concealing another significant secret: she may be related to a fellow villager.

Soap enthusiasts have taken to the internet to suggest that Ella could be connected to recent arrival John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who entered the Dales last month as the long-lost son of Jack Sugden (Clive Hornby), reports the Manchester Evening News.
Prominent Emmerdale character John has raised plenty of eyebrows and stirred unrest among the locals. Moreover, the mysterious revelation of a dog tag with ‘Aiden’ inscribed on it has viewers questioning the veracity of his backstory.
Amidst fevered speculation, fans are theorising a shocking connection between John and Ella, suggesting they might share family ties. On one Reddit thread, a fan speculated: “It seems they are setting up something but I don’t really know what could happen because there’s a lot of ways they could go with it/him. We don’t know much about him as of right now.”

Another theory presented by a viewer hinted: “One more theory could be that John and Ella might be related or something since they have both been living in their Car/Van.
“They try to keep their relation a secret at all times so that no one finds out. they both could perhaps join forces to help each other destroy the Sugden dynasty etc.” Echoing the sentiment, another wrote, “I could see this happening! Brother and sister?”
Suspicion also arises from John’s peculiar situation. A user pointed out, “Why is he living in his car? He doesn’t look like he doesn’t have any money, he’s well dressed etc. So is he running from something/someone. What’s up with his family? Did he really have a loving ‘father.’”
The curious case deepens when a fifth commenter remarked on the striking similarity between John and Ella’s choice of dwelling: “The situation with John living in his van is exactly similar to Ella living in her car.”
