‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers tease that the end may be near for both Agent John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) and Ava Jerome (Maura West).
Both John and Ava have been wreaking havoc on Port Charles and must be stopped. Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) knows that John left his bag in Ava’s suite at the Metro Court.
He left the bag before Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) fell out of the window in Ava’s room.
Ava lied to Anna about how John’s bag ended up with her. She said that when Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) threw him out of the hotel.
She let him keep his bag in her room “out of the goodness of her heart.”
That’s about as believable as John Cates is ethical. She knows they both have a grudge against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
She may even suspect an alliance between them.
Anna probably already thinks they’re having an affair. When Anna asks him why his duffel bag was in Ava’s suite, we all know he’ll lie to her.
But Anna doesn’t appreciate being lied to, and while a brewing romance between John and Ava may be none of her business, a police investigation is very much her concern.
Cates is already on Anna’s bad side. He’s such a terrible FBI agent that he truly suspected that Anna was the head of Pikeman. His accusations against her were beyond silly.
He didn’t even consider another suspect at the time. But then, he botched the arrest of Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) when Anna beat him to the punch and warned her love Val before the cops showed up at his house.
However, John’s true goal was not to bust Pikeman but to destroy Sonny. He has exercised poor judgment by getting into bed (literally) with Ava, and he’s also privy to her secret about Sonny’s bipolar medicine. He’s agreed to help her in the custody battle with Sonny.
Speaking of which, the truth will soon come out about Ava’s hand in Sonny’s downfall. And it’s not a matter of if the pharmacist spills about Ava’s role in the medicine switch but when.
Ava may expect that John can help her out of the mess she’s in, and if he tells her he can’t risk his job, it ironically may cost him his career as an agent.
The martini-drinking murderess could decide that if Cates won’t help her, he’s useless to her. She could tell Anna that John knew about Sonny’s medicine. Either way, both Ava and Cates will be found out.
Anna could get more clarity about John from the superiors she’s contacted and finally get what she needs to get John out of everyone’s crosshairs.
Ava may not be believed, but Anna doesn’t think much of Cates. She knows he’s corrupt and obsessed with revenge against Sonny for his treatment of Jagger’s high-school sweetheart Karen Wexler (Cari Shayne) a million years ago. Cates has never forgiven him for it.
Even if this all sounds outlandish, it’s a soap, and in Port Charles, anything can happen.
Cates must be stopped, just like Ava, and killing two birds with one stone is typically the most effective method of execution.
